Roam ("Roam", "we", "us") is a world-radio app from 7 Source LLC that lets you listen to live internet radio from around the globe, collect passport stamps, and follow curated journeys. This policy explains what we collect, why, and your choices.
1. Summary
- You can browse and listen as a guest without an account. Free listening includes 10 new stations a day. Your favourites and recently played stations always play, and the count resets at midnight.
- An account (optional, Sign in with Apple or Google) is only needed to save favourites and sync them across your devices.
- Roam Pro is an optional subscription sold through Apple ($1.99 a month or $14.99 a year in the US). We never see your card details.
- Going Local (Roam Pro, iPhone and iPad) uses your approximate location, only if you allow it and only while you are using the app. It is not stored on our servers, not linked to your account, and not used to track you.
- We collect the minimum needed for these features. We do not sell your data or use it for advertising or cross-app tracking.
2. Information we collect
Account information (only if you sign in) — when you sign in with Apple or Google, our authentication provider (Google Firebase Authentication) receives and stores your email address (with Sign in with Apple this may be Apple's private relay address), your name if provided, and a unique user identifier.
Your saved content (only if you sign in) — your favourite stations and albums are stored in Google Cloud Firestore, associated with your user identifier, so they sync across your devices.
Approximate location (only for Going Local, only if you allow it) — see section 3.
Purchases — Roam Pro subscriptions and optional tips are bought and billed by Apple through the App Store. Apple tells the app on your device whether you have an active Roam Pro subscription. We do not receive or store your payment card or billing details.
On-device only — your passport/visited countries, recently played stations, listening stats, where you left off, your daily free-station count, sleep-timer, alarm and evening-reminder settings, and your Going Local distance setting and most recent Going Local results stay on your device and are not sent to us.
We do NOT collect your precise location, contacts, photos, health, financial data, or browsing history, and we include no third-party advertising or analytics SDKs.
3. Location and Going Local
Going Local is a Roam Pro feature on iPhone and iPad that shows local radio, restaurants, pubs, and sights around you.
- When we ask: Roam asks for location only after you tap Use my location in Going Local. It never asks at launch, and free users are never asked. iOS will ask you to allow location While Using the App; Roam does not use location in the background.
- How precise: the iOS location prompt defaults to approximate location (Precise off). On top of that, Roam asks iOS for kilometre-level accuracy and rounds your position to two decimal places (about 1 km) before using it. Your exact position is never used or shared.
- Where it goes: the rounded position is used to find your town and country and to look up what is nearby. To do that it is sent to Apple (Apple Maps place search and place-name lookup) and to Wikipedia (nearby articles). To find local radio, Roam sends only your town name and country code to Radio-Browser, not your coordinates.
- What we do not do: your location is not sent to 7 Source servers, not saved in your account, not linked to your identity, and not used for advertising, tracking, or analytics.
- On your device: Roam keeps your most recent Going Local results (including the town and the rounded position) on your device so the section loads quickly and works briefly offline.
- Saying no: you can decline, or turn location off at any time (see section 9). The rest of Roam keeps working.
4. Third-party services Roam connects to
- Radio-Browser (radio-browser.info) — the open station directory.
- Internet radio streams — pressing play connects your device directly to a third-party station's stream; that broadcaster may receive your IP address and has its own privacy practices.
- Apple iTunes Search API — album artwork for recognised tracks.
- Wikipedia / Wikimedia — artist and landmark images and stories, and, for Going Local, nearby articles.
- 7 Source Studio image server (atlas.7sourcestudio.com) — landmark photos.
- flagcdn.com — country flag images.
- Apple Maps — for Going Local, nearby places and your town name.
- GetYourGuide and Viator — Going Local shows links to tours in your town; they open only if you tap them.
- Apple App Store — Roam Pro subscriptions and tips.
- Google Firebase (Authentication, Cloud Firestore), Google Sign-In and Sign in with Apple — optional account features.
5. How we use information
Only to authenticate you, sync and show your favourites, provide features you request (search, playback, sleep timer, alarm, reminders, Going Local, Roam Pro), and maintain security. Never for advertising, profiling, or sale.
6. Notifications
- Sleep timer — runs on your device and stops playback when it ends. It is available to everyone and needs no account.
- Alarm (Roam Pro) — Roam schedules a local notification on your device; tapping it opens Roam and starts your station. An alarm you set before Roam Pro existed keeps working.
- Evening reminder — off unless you turn it on in Profile. It is a local notification scheduled on your device.
Roam asks for notification permission only when you set an alarm or turn on the reminder. We operate no remote push service.
7. Roam Pro subscriptions and payments
Roam Pro is an auto-renewing subscription ($1.99 a month or $14.99 a year in the US; prices in other regions are shown in the App Store) sold and billed by Apple. It renews unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. You can manage or cancel it in your device's Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions. Payment, refunds, and billing are handled by Apple under Apple's terms and privacy policy. We never receive your card details.
8. Data retention and deletion
- Local data is removed when you delete the app.
- You can delete your account at any time, right in the app — go to Profile → Delete Account. This permanently and immediately removes your account, your saved favourites, and the listening data stored on that device (stats, recently played, and passport).
- Deleting your account does not cancel a Roam Pro subscription; cancel it through Apple (section 7).
- You may also request deletion by emailing contact@7sourcestudio.com; we delete it within 30 days.
9. Your choices
- Turn off location — on your iPhone or iPad go to Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → Roam and choose Never. If location is off, Going Local shows an Open Settings button that takes you there. You can also simply not use Going Local.
- Notifications — turn the evening reminder off in Profile, clear an alarm in the player, or turn off Roam's notifications in Settings → Notifications → Roam.
- Use Roam without an account — sign in only if you want favourites saved and synced. You can sign out at any time in Profile.
- Delete your account — Profile → Delete Account, or email contact@7sourcestudio.com.
- Cancel Roam Pro — Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions.
10. Children
Roam is not directed to children under 13 (or your region's equivalent age) and we do not knowingly collect their personal information.
11. Security
Authentication and database access run through Google Firebase over encrypted connections with access rules. No method is 100% secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your data.
12. International users
Your information may be processed on Google (Firebase) servers outside your country. By using Roam you consent to this processing.
13. Your rights
Depending on your region (e.g. GDPR/UK GDPR, CCPA) you may access, correct, delete, or export your data and object to certain processing. Contact contact@7sourcestudio.com.
14. Changes
We may update this policy; we'll revise the date above and note material changes in the app.
